The semester has officially ended! And more importantly, I passed math. I guess miracles are real.
This semester has been wonderful for me. I say it every time, but I feel this was the most successful one I’ve had. I learned so much and have grown significantly as a composer. I adopted a new writing style, added lots of new tools to my toolbox, and gained more confidence in my abilities.
I (mostly) finished the second movement of my string quartet. It’s such a fun piece (way too difficult for me to play). I got a good recording of the first movement, and I can’t wait to get the recording of February back from the 1st Composition Recital. I also completed two films this semester, and they’re completely different from each other. The last little project I’ve been working on has been a vocal jazz piece. Still in progress, but a notable piece.
Moving forward, I’ll be spending the end of May through early June in Italy taking a culture course. When I get back to the States, I’ll be working with Keystone Musical Arts Center assisting summer camps and piano classes and running composition workshops. In composition, I’ll be cleaning up my scores and prepping for graduate school applications. I want to continue writing my string quartet and start an orchestra piece for the Nazareth yearly competition. And of course, entering lots of competitions, classical and film-related.
