Time...Doesn't Exist

Hey y’all! It’s been a hectic few weeks!
Last week became peculiarly packed as I ended up performing with some friends for Nazareth’s Italian House Celebration last Friday. I learned a few accompaniment parts for flute and voice during the week (and rehearsed them in my non-existent spare time). I also played a few pieces of my own (because I’m Italian, it was allowed 😉), which included Devotion, a piano rendition of February, and a newer piece that I haven’t figured out what to do with yet.
In terms of composition, I’ve been very busy working on the projects I listed in last week’s post. I have a new orchestra piece that has gone through a lot of character development in the past weeks. It’s still in its early stages, but I think I’ve generated a general plan for it. Now let’s see if I can follow it. 😊 I’m hoping to submit this piece to the Nazareth Composition Competition at the end of November.
For my jazz works, I’ve had to do some time period research. I discovered I was trying to recreate a sound without knowing what was used to create it in the first place. As it turns out, my instrumentation was too large, and I needed to sub-out some to get the desired effect. More on that at a later date…
Another big focus of mine that I have been neglecting is my grad school applications. If you need me this weekend, I’ll be locked in the library editing scores and writing essays. Hey Google, how do you write a personal statement?
Until next time,
