Next Chapter: Loaded

It’s been a little while since my last post. Let’s get into it:

I am in my third week of graduate school so far. Honestly, it’s not as intimidating as I perceived it to be. Everyone is very kind and helpful. I’m loving my classes so far. I’ll say they’re not as demanding regarding the workload (watch me each my words in a few weeks). But it’s giving me plenty of time to perfect my assignments and learn more from them. And I’ve already learned so much in the first few classes, even in the ones that looked like they may be more of a review. I’m seeing things from different perspectives and getting new knowledge in areas I thought I knew well.

This whole experience has sparked a new wave of inspiration in me. I want to use this extra time to push myself more compositionally and explore new avenues in my assignments and self-made projects. We’ve had brief discussions in our forum on how film music has evolved into a music-by-the-pound industry. As composers, we’re expected to churn out multiple minutes of fully orchestrated and mocked-up music a day, hours a week. I think I can best use my extra time practicing for that. Sure, I get plenty of class assignments that train that, but there’s no hurt in doing more, right? But I promise that school assignments are a priority (most of the time).

The other task of mine the past few weeks has been job hunting. But everything now sits out of my control. There’s nothing I can do but wait. It’s another stressor sitting on my mind at all times. I know it will work out at the end (of this month, hopefully). Here’s to trying!

Until next time,
