Head Above Water

Over the past two weeks, I’ve been fighting to stay afloat, but my head is still well above water. I’m keeping up, but I feel like I’m still slipping. Getting used to the juggle between work and school is simple, yet it adds a lot of extra pressure. But I am so grateful the weight of finances started to pull back.
Last week, we had our second Jeff Beal class. I don’t think this cue went that well for me. I felt great going into it, but I later found out that I had interpreted the scene wrong at the end. I had a completely different take on the emotion. In some cases, that works out and is interesting. But for me, it was just wrong. Some moments were done well, but I felt defeated and disappointed in myself when I walked away from the meeting. On a brighter note, there is one more class. The scene for this one is much different and feels harder to score than the last two. The emotion and direction are less obvious to paint. He also recommends that we use electronics in the score to do nothing more than experiment in the field and nail the context of the film.
November is a big month for me. Between final projects and recording sessions, I’m attending as many concerts as I can and writing as much as possible. I’m venturing into a new domain of concert music with my current project, and I can’t wait to share this experience with you all.
