Writing Like Mozart

This week I finished the National University of Singapore’s Write like Mozart: An Introduction to Classical Music Composition six-week course on Coursera. I found this class to be mostly theory-based (as it should). It covers most of music theory 1 but dives a bit deeper into textures and progressions. Even though I am not someone who typically writes in the classical style, as I like to listen to the baroque or romantic styles more and prefer to write in the film genre, I still feel like I gained a lot of useful tools from the course.

Even though the Spider-Man challenge is still in the voting stage, it is evident that I am not going to place high in the contest. I am not disappointed though. Yes, it would have been great to win but the challenges and contests are a learning opportunity. I pushed myself to write something I haven’t done before. I have never written any music set for an action-styled movie, so Spider-Man was a good exercise for me and I had a lot of fun doing it.

I want this blog to be very open. Even though this is about my career, I want to show my wins and losses that I come across during my journey because the point of this blog is to show others how I got to where I am wherever I am at the time they’re reading it. It is important to me that this blog stays honest and open with all of my successes and failures. Besides, bragging is what social media is for.
